This exceptionally bright and spacious holiday accommodation is located on the first floor in the historic part of the 18th century estate, which housed the silkworm farm.
Bright atmosphere for a shared and relaxing vacation.
The white mulberry tree (Morus alba) originates from East Asia and has been cultivated in China for over 4500 years. It prefers sunny, light, calcareous and sandy soils and produces sweet, white to red-black fruits. Originally from Asia, mulberry trees were probably introduced to Europe around the 17th century. The mulberry tree was particularly important for silkworm breeding, as the silkworm feeds exclusively on the leaves of the tree.
Mulberry trees are often found in mythology, for example in Ovid's Metamorphoses.
In Pyramus and Thisbe, it is said that the colour of the mulberries was originally white and that the blood that Pyramus shed soaked into the roots of the tree and turned the mulberries purple.
The mulberry tree is mentioned eight times in the Bible.
Medically, the sap of the mulberries was recommended in Europe for the prevention and treatment of poisoning and inflammation, but especially against sore throats.
And the mulberry tree is also found as a motif in art: Van Gogh painted the mulberry tree in October 1889 when he was staying at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole sanatorium in Saint-Rémy-en-Provence to recover from a series of mental breakdowns, including the infamous incident with his ear. The time Vincent van Gogh spent in Saint-Rémy was instrumental in establishing his own style of art. He refined it during this phase into a distinctive choice of colours and a unique artistic style.
