Before the 14th century the village was called "Saint Saturnin de Coiran" and was located on the surrounding hills.
In the 17th century, the planting of mulberry trees and the breeding of silkworms were one of the main resources of the population until the beginning of the 19th century.
The castle located on the banks of the Gardon d'Anduze is at the origin of the displacement of the village towards the valley which began at the beginning of the 19th century.
The current name of Cardet is thought to have originated in the time of hemp cultivation. Hemp was "carded" for further treatment.
In the 19th century, more than 100,000 hectares of French land were used for hemp production and harvested hemp was processed into paper, linen, rope, natural oil and fabric.
